‘I’m not the first guy willing to die to feed his family.’

James Braddock

Mae:

Rosy, use your fork, please.

Jim:

Who needs a cow, huh?

Rosy:

Mama, I want some more.

Mae:

I’m sorry, sweetheart. We need to save some for the boys.

Jim:

Here you go, You know, Mae, I dreamed last night… that I was having dinner at The Ritz. With Mickey Rooney and George Raft.

Mae:

Really!

Jim:

Yeah. And I dreamed I had a steak. A thick, juicy steak. Like this, Rosy. And then I had a mountain of mashed potatoes… and I went back for ice cream three times. I’m stuffed. I’m absolutely full. I cannot eat another thing. Want to give me a hand?

Cinderella Man, 2005

What we have is often not what we really need. What others really need is often what we have too much of. As you focus your mind on the latest edition of gadget or fashion; spare a thought for those who hope they can keep a roof over their heads or feed their family. Real suffering and struggle is all around us if we but open our eyes and hearts. Do something remarkable, share from your world of plenty with those who have nothing but hope. True richness comes from the heart.
