26th June

Human torture is condemned and legislation is promptly created. Worldwide support is generated through every possible form of media. Financial donations and specialist organisations provide mental and physical aid to the hundreds of thousands of victims of inhumane torture. The suffering and unjust punishment of innocent people continues in many corners of the world. We can, and should be attentive to those who are, or have been victims.

When is torture not a crime? Different cultures and religions often adopt their own rules and authorities cannot, or prefer not to intervene. Politics and war also bypass the judgment of torture.Who addresses the plight of the victims?

My question is this, do animals receive the same coverage and assistance? Activism can only do so much but legislation has the impact needed to change lives and illegalise the torture of all life. Every day, throughout the world commandeered by humans; there are lives of animals and people being exploited and abused. Life and suffering are not human specific traits; animals are seemingly classed as merchandise, rather than emotive beings. Rethink your defintion of inhumanity, a victim and what torture extends to. Have you ever looked into the eyes of an animal treading through their last few moments of life?
