Irreverent Male

Life is not a calendar of sunshine and lollipop celebration. International Women’s Day and Mother’s Day are marred if we continue to live in a world of inequality and fear. Breonna Taylor and Sarah Everett are traumatic reminders of violence against women. Police are misusing their authority on/off social media camera, on a daily basis. What does the media report of this? What do politicians do to address this corruption?

It is no surprise that politicians offer their formal apologies and the media chooses to detract from the real news by advertising a lockdown restriction-breaking royal as their headline. Is society so brainwashed to look the elite way while public violence towards women continues? If every woman of every colour had the same security escort as a royal, would unhinged males retreat? No, the truth is on our streets, behind closed office/domestic doors. Women are abused and despised but justice is not always a police call away. The injustice and threat can also be the law.

Breonna’s innocence resonates throughout her community in murals, memorials and a mother’s broken home. Racism and sexism continue to thrive in patriarchal politics, power and propaganda. What can we do to change this? Flowers and candles pay respect but they will not change the mindset of murderers and haters. Demand justice and safety for all girls and women of any colour. Never vote for indifference and do not accept this reality as a norm.

See beyond the social media topic trends and speak-up. Take action and use your space to change fear into assertion. Women must not be manhandled. The offending males must be held accountable. They must be educated in emotional skills and interaction. Time’s up for violence against girls and women. Mother’s Day should not be a day of loss and mourning. Dedicate every day to equal respect and a fearless identity.
