Off the Rails
As much as we want to move on from climate change, the plastic mountains and return to sender material waste cannot be hidden in flash floods and bushfires. The wasteful lifestlyes need to be replaced with durable sensibilities. How many takeout cups have you disposed of this week? Did you take your own reusable shoppiing bags to the grocery store? Do we need to use excessive wrappings for a gift, only for the pretty layer to be torn open and thrown away? Amazon did pack parcels with brown paper which I carefully folded and kept to reuse as wrapping paper, sadly, they have reverted to plastic.
Ask yourself how many clothes you have in your wardrobe, how often you buy new trends and how often do you wear everything you have? If you are like me, you will have a few things you wear every week until they fall apart. I then, reluctantly take them to a recycling collection point such as H&M. For those who do not know the incentive or conscious initiative, you are presented with a £5 H&M gift voucher for every standard size bag of clothing/old material items you recycle. So, I’m being branded as some patchwork Huckleberry Finn by some for sporting unfashionable holes in my jumper or trousers but, I know how little we can get by on without littering the environment.
People love to recycle the truth as we know from social media and politics but can reuse what we already have? Can we change the prognosis for something greater than the latest sighting of an enviable pair of heels or celebrity outfit? Would you like to keep the hanger? Do you really need a boast bag? Reduce your excess charges on the planet. The interest is dangerously high and there is no fixed rate for waste.
