5th June

The planet is on full emergency alert but not everyone is taking note of the flash floods, earthquakes, cyclones, tsunamis and climate change. We have exploited the land, animals and natural resources. The earth is retaliating but humans are continuing to pollute, contaminate and waste the finite resources meant to be shared with animals and wildlife.

We are living in a wasteland war zone where gas masks seem like an option to the polluted industrial, chemical and vehicle fumes. The soil is no longer safe for humans or animals. The ecosystem is endangered and nothing natural is being allowed to recover from the raging machine that is human consumption and consumerism. Plastic litter and landfill are depleting natural habitat impacting on health and the productivity of the soil. Sealife is choking on our material waste. Biodiversity is endangered as a result of deforestation. Lost biomes and endangered, or now extinct species reveal the immense sprawl of human activity and thoughtlessness.

The rivers and oceans are enduring oil slicks, acid rain and the impact of urban clutter. Safe drinking water is a political pawn in the race for greed. Factories and farming are pumping out waste into water used by humans, animals and plants.

How large is your carbon footprint? We can all make small changes in our own lives to reduce the greater tragedy around us. Reduce, reuse and Recycle. Avoid chemicals and single use living. Encourage green spaces and flowers. Buy ethical food, clothing and green fuel vehicles. Carshare to reduce pollution. Ride a bike or walk as often as you can. Avoid pesticides in your diet and gardens. Eat plant based food. Stop using plastic bags, straws and cups. Invest in travel cups. Live with a clean conscience with respect for your habitat and that of animals and plants. The future of the planet is in our hands and there’s no Planet B. Save nature by being kind to all life and the spaces you use and pass through.

‘What we do now echoes in eternity.’
